Why Log2Go requests location permission
Log2Go is an amateur-radio logging app for fixed, mobile, and portable operators. Location helps an operator document where a QSO was made.
The app uses location for:
- Capturing GPS coordinates for a QSO.
- Calculating or recording the Maidenhead grid square.
- Recording county, state, and city for station-location fields.
- Supporting mobile and portable logging where the station location changes.
- Preparing more accurate logbook data for exports and online logbook services.
How location is used
Location is captured only when the user chooses a GPS/location feature, such as Get GPS Location or a station-profile/location workflow.
Log2Go does not use background location tracking.
Precise vs approximate location
Log2Go requests fine and coarse location so the user can capture accurate mobile/portable station information. If only approximate location is available, the app may still record a rough location, but station-location fields may be less precise.
Data sharing
When the user captures location, GPS coordinates may be sent to the Log2Go backend and may be sent to a geocoding/reverse-geocoding provider to derive county, state, city, or related station-location fields.
User control
The user chooses when to capture location. The user can deny location permission and still use local logging and manual entry.
If a future release adds background location, this document, the Privacy Policy, Android permissions, Play Console declarations, and in-app permission messaging must be updated before release.
